Dr. Nicole Scheffler

Dr. Nicole Scheffler grew up in Chenango Bridge, NY. She graduated from Colgate University in Hamilton, NY, with a Chemistry major and Art minor, played Division I basketball and was a high jumper on the Track and Field team. After graduation, she moved to NC and worked as a research chemist prior to receiving her dental and orthodontic training from the University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill. 

Dr. Scheffler maintains a full-time private practice in Boone and North Wilkesboro, NC and is a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics.  She has continued to collaborate on research projects and teaches the first-year residents about TADs in the orthodontic department at UNC.​

Dr. Scheffler helped develop Ormco’s VectorTAS and designed AOA’s Anterior Open Bite appliance. She has lectured internationally about TADs and on various orthodontic clinical procedures, with an emphasis on anterior open bite treatment. She has published multiple articles and won the 2015 Dewel Clinical Research Award for the best clinical research publication for her article Scheffler NR, Proffit WR, Phillips C. Outcomes and stability in patients with anterior open bite and long anterior face height treated with temporary anchorage devices and a maxillary intrusion splint.
